Initiated by a small group of Balinese people who had opportunity to live in Australia, mainly by mix-married with Aussie spouse, they started playing gamelan (Balinese musical instruments) provided by Museum of Sydney in the city. The group became bigger very quickly helped by the vast interest of the Australian people who has passion and love toward Balinese culture. The so-called member of the group was then no longer only Balinese people but also wider to local Australian.
Thanks to Museum of Sydney (who provide the instruments) and University of Sydney (who provides the bulding), the central activity of the Balinese community is now located at Old Darlington School, University of Sydney where the members are regularly socialising and practicing gamelan as well as balinese dancings and any other activities to keep ourselves glued.
For those who feels connected to Bali and its people or culture, please feel free to join us keeping the Balinese spirit high and maintain the long historic relationship between Bali and Australia forever in harmony!
